Cross-cultural Internship Program in Mathematics. 2024.6.18Tue▶8.8Thu Venue Advanced Institute for Materials Research (WPI-AIMR), Tohoku University Deadline 2024.4.19FriApplication for FY2024 has been closed. Japanese Overview The Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS) program has been held at the Institute for Pure & Applied Mathematics (IPAM) of the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2018, the Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR) at Tohoku University in Sendai launched the g-RIPS-Sendai program in collaboration with IPAM, targeting graduate-level students in mathematical science and related disciplines. Participants from the U.S. and Japan will work on cross-cultural teams on research projects designed by industrial partners. The projects are expected to be of great interest to the partners and offer stimulating challenges to students. Most projects will involve both mathematical and computational work. Information related to programs offered by IPAM can be found at “Student Research Programs.” Information related to programs offered by IPAM can be found at “Student Research Programs.” Projects Industrial partners for G-RIPS Sendai 2024 include the following. Each project team has four cross-cultural members: two from the U.S. and two from Japan. Academic and industrial mentors will take care of each project team. G-RIPS Sendai was perhaps the greatest experience of my life. It gives students the opportunity to work on real-world, industrial research projects while being able to experience and explore a new country and culture. The program facilitates cross-cultural and linguistic exchange by bringing together students from all over the world.Read more A Summer to Grow, Experience, and Cherish I am truly grateful for the opportunity to participate in G-RIPS Sendai 2023. It was a summer with immense growth, both personally and professionally. I got a chance to collaborate with and learn from a diverse group of students, all while immersing myself in a unique culture. I felt very welcomed in the program and my team. Everyone I was fortunate enough to meet and interact with was enthusiastic and fun to be around. This was my first experience working on a problem outside of academia. It was exciting to see how I could apply the skills I have acquired in graduate school to a problem in industry.Read more 2024 poster download G-RIPS Sendai Organizers g-rips-sendai_organizers@grp.tohoku.ac.jp Host Mathematical Science Center for Co-creative Society (MathCCS) Tohoku Forum for Creativity (TFC) Advanced Institute for Materials Research (WPI-AIMR) Co-host RIKEN Interdisciplinary Theoretical and Mathematical Sciences Program (iTHEMS) Institute for Pure & Applied Mathematics, UCLA Copyright © MathCCS, Tohoku University.
