Scholars are recruited and initially screened by the Japanese embassy (or consulate, depending on the country). Because the application process differs depending on the country where the Japanese embassy is located, please contact the Japanese embassy or consulate general in your country for details. Applicants who have passed the preliminary screening conducted by their Japanese embassy should contact the faculty member of their choice (only after passing the preliminary examination at the embassy). A scholarship of 146,000 (MC) or 147,000 (DC) yen per month, tuition waiver (full waiver), and round-trip travel expenses are provided. - University Recommendation (general selection) For this type of MEXT scholarship, the university selects and recommends research students directly to MEXT as candidates for the scholarship. Applications are usually accepted around December, with a deadline around January. Recruitment and payment begin at the time of enrollment. However, only those who plan to arrive in Japan in October are eligible for this type of MEXT scholarship. A scholarship of 146,000 (MC) or 147,000 (DC) yen per month, tuition waiver (full waiver), and round-trip travel expenses are provided. Private Foundations&#39; Scholarships Some private foundations or other organizations in Japan offer scholarships for international students. These scholarships vary in terms of application procedures, eligible fields of study, and amounts. In most cases, the application must be submitted through the university after enrollment. Support for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation "Tohoku University Advanced Graduate School Pioneering Research Support Project for PhD Students    University Fellowship Creation Project Recruitment information is published around February for April recruitment and around July for October recruitment. Recruitment begins in the first year of the DC program. - Research Grant (Support for Living Expenses) 160,000-200,000 yen/month - Research Expenses: 340,000 yen/year - Tuition waiver (partial to full waiver) International Joint Graduate Program - Graduate Program in Data Sciences Recruitment information is released around November for the April recruitment and around June for the October recruitment. Recruitment begins in the first year of MC enrollment. - RA salary: (MC) 100,000 - 130,000 yen per month; (DC) 100,000 - 170,000 yen per month. - Tuition waiver (partial to full waiver) for DC students only. - Neuro Global Internatioanal Joint Graduate Program Recruitment information is published around May.  Recruitment begins in the first year of MC enrollment. - RA Salary: Program candidates (for the first half year of employment) MC about 80,000 yen/month; regular program students (after the candidate period) MC about 100,000 yen/month, DC about 160,000 yen/month. - Tuition waiver (partial to full waiver) only for DC students. - International Joint Graduate Program in Integrated Chemistry Recruitment information is released around December for April recruitment (around June for October recruitment). Recruitment begins in the second year of MC enrollment. - RA salary: MC students approximately 130,000 yen per month; DC students supported by the above Pioneering Research Support Project for PhD Students. - Tuition waiver (partial to full waiver) only for DC students. Advanced Graduate Program for Future Medicine and Health Care(JP) Recruitment information is released around February.  April entrants: Applications will be accepted prior to MC enrollment; October entrants: Applications will be accepted from around February of the first year of MC.  - Scholarship: Approximately 150,000 - 200,000 yen per month (varies depending on the number of students in the program). - Tuition waiver (partial to full waiver) for DC students only. Division for Interdisciplinary Advanced Research and Education Recruitment information is released in late January or early February.  Master&#39;s Research Fellowships (Application deadline: around April): scholarsip of approximately 500,000 yen per year (equivalent to tuition) and 100,000 yen for research expenses. Doctoral Research Fellowships (Application deadline: around February): Fellowship approximately 180,000 yen/month (600,000 yen/year) - Tuition waiver (partial to full waiver) for DC students only. Global Hagi Scholarship Recruitment information is released around May. The scholarship is 50,000 yen per month (600,000 yen/year) for second-year MC students and first-year DC students. Research Fellowship for Young Scientists (JSPS) Application information is released around February of the year prior to the year of recruitment. It provides the scholarship for DC1: 200,000 yen/month for 3 years; DC2: 200,000 yen/month for 2 years, and tuition waiver (partial to full waiver). Research Assistants (RA) in the Graduate School Only for doctoral course students. RA salary: about 80,000 - 120,000 yen (paid twice a year) *The list of eligible students will be prepared by the Academic Affairs Section based on the agreement of the Graduate School of Life Sciences. Research Assistants (RA) at the laboratory This support can be provided by your supervisor&#39;s research funds. If you wish to go on to a doctoral course, please consult with your supervisor. Entrance and Tuition fee waiver Students who find it difficult to pay admissions or tuition fees for financial reasons may be eligible for a partial or full waiver of admissions and/or tuition fees upon application and review. Please note that the application period for tuition waivers is very short. * Non-degree Students are not eligible for these waivers. * In addition to the regular tuition waiver program, a new system of "Waiver Support for Outstanding Students" has been newly established from the 2022 academic year. Notes When applying for international graduate programs or MEXT scholarships, students may be asked to submit their English proficiency test scores (TOEFL® test, TOEIC® test, IELTS, etc.).
